5 Reasons to go to UX New Zealand

September 2016

Optimal Workshop, one of TechCommNZ's Gold Business Partners, is gearing up for a very big conference this October. Jimmy Sutcliffe lists 5 reasons why you should experience UX New Zealand.

Working in the tech industry, you’ve undoubtedly heard the term User Experience, or more commonly UX. What you may not have heard is that UX New Zealand 2016, Aotearoa’s biggest UX conference, is coming up in October.

Taking place from 13–14 October at Shed 6 on Wellington’s beautiful waterfront, here are five reasons you don’t want to miss UX New Zealand 2016:

1. You already work in UX

Whether we know it or not, everyone working in the digital sphere is a UX designer. We all impact the experience of the end-user, so knowing how to create a better experience is key. Attend this conference to gain a wider understanding of all aspects that go into creating a digital product, and how they affect your customer. Don’t miss Jenn Downs' talk on empathy in automation, or the intro to personas by last year’s top speaker, Kat Hardisty.

2. It’s not just UX

Yes, UX is the underlying theme of the conference, but you’ll hear inspiring talks from experts in all disciplines across a range of topics, from virtual reality to content strategy. Researchers, designers, analysts — you’ll gain perspective on what’s happening in all areas of the industry and what’s impacting the teams you’re working with.

3. You can mingle with other UXers

UX New Zealand is an excellent opportunity to connect with people working in the digital space. This year the event is expected to attract over 400 industry experts and enthusiasts from Aotearoa and around the world. You’ll get plenty of time to chat to people and hear what they’re working on. From aviation companies, museums, banks, and agencies, you’ll get to see how UX is done in a handful of other industries.

4. Get your head around UX

This event is aimed at all levels of experience, so what better way to get an intro into the world of UX? And if you’re wanting to learn more about UX or start including it into your work, check out the range of workshops on offer. There’s even a UX 101 workshop for those new to the game!
