The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries. These products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

You will have experience in technical communications/documentation, a knowledge of industry standard tools and practices, and a succinct communication style suitable for digital/mobile platforms.

Key responsibilities:

  • Generation of technical content and user assistance in a variety of forms, including PDF, HTML, XML, and video for both print and digital communication
  • Technical editing including review and proofing of content created by other team members
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Analyze developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material
  • Management and tracking of content throughout the process, including translation
  • Coordination with other members of the group and other (international) groups within Trimble.
  • Interview production and engineering teams and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
  • Work with UX designers to select and edit photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
  • Publish final documentation, both part and entire guides, develop style guides and use relevant tools.

Skill and Experience required:

  • Proven track record demonstrating skills in technical writing, editing and proof-reading
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Familiar with web design concepts and interest in web publishing, comfortable with basic HTML markup, able to edit and enter HTML code autonomously from developers
  • Publication experience, developing style guides and use of Madcap Flare (or similar) for auto publication, propensity/interest to ‘trouble shoot’ and fix issues
  • Experience with version control software (GIT) and version control best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of subject matter experts, from developers to end-users
  • Ability to work well under pressure using effective time management skills
  • Ability to work proactively and speak up when inefficiencies exist
  • Experience documenting for a highly technical and complex product
  • Flexible approach to working in a changing environment
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent file management practices
  • Eye for continuous improvement
  • Experience with documentation in digital products
